Saying Goodbye to the Old and Hello to the New.

This is the last entry of my blog as I will be transferring to the new one tomorrow (the link is above).

My meme "Today's Flowers" will also be at my new blog, and I hope those of you who have participated will join me as the New Year begins.

I want to thank you all for visiting me and leaving all your comments, for your kindness, for your friendship, and for making this blogging world a very enjoyable part of my life.  The countries I have learned of have improved my geography greatly, here and abroad.  The cultures I have learned about, so many things too numerous to mention, it has been a wonderful education.

But above all it is the people whom I have met, who have made this blogging world a very special place.

My blog is still a photographic journal for our son, one of memories for him to enjoy for years to come.  It has also evolved into what it is now, thanks to all of you.

An important reason for the change is, as I mentioned before, that some of you have let me know that you have been having a hard time leaving comments.  Also that it takes a long time to load these pages.  I started thinking that because this is seven years' old and there are an incredible amount of photographs on here, this may be the reason why things are slowing down.  Smiling here.

Does the way I set my comments add to the problem?  I read somewhere that this might be the case.  Embed, pop-up, full-page, I have no clue and I am not sure if this is the reason in my particular case. Wordpress and other servers talking to blogger, blogger talking to blogger, again, no clue?  It is not the only reason for my decision.  It just seemed to be the right time to start fresh.

I welcome any comments and please let me know if those of you who have had the problems I mentioned, find it more of a pleasant experience to visit.

My new blog is

"An English Girl Rambles 2016" and it will be the forerunner of subsequent blogs, as I intend to start afresh each year, for as long as I can keep them going.

You can view it here.

If the link doesn't work above, you can cut and paste the following:

Thank you for visiting friends.
Happy New Year!

(I am still on vacation and will not be able to read comments or publish them, but things should be back to normal by this time next week. Thank you for being so patient as I know I will thoroughly enjoy them when time allows.)

A Poem

From quiet homes and first beginnings
Out to the undiscovered ends,
There's nothing worth the wear of winning
But laughter and the love of friends.

Random Photo

My time on the computer is very limited right now.  Up until the New Year I have added several posts ahead of time so that there will still be things for you to look at.  Please know that I will publish your comments when I can read them but it could take a while, depending on what is happening that day.  I value them very much and promise you I am not ignoring them.  So....

where is the red truck?

Poem to share

This poem, shared in good humor, tickled my funny bone when I read it originally.

(Photo from Pixabay, a free online photo website.)

When I'm An Old Lady
Joanne Bailey Baxter

When I'm an old lady, I'll live with each kid,
And bring so much happiness just as they did.
I want to pay back all the joy they've provided.
Returning each deed, Oh, they'll be so excited!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids...)

I'll write on the walls with reds, whites and blues,
And bounce on the furniture....wearing my shoes.
I'll drink from the carton and then leave it out.
I'll stuff all the toilets and oh, how they'll shout!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids...)

When they're on the phone and just out of reach,
I'll get into things like sugar and bleach.
Oh, they'll snap their fingers and then shake their head,
And when that is done, I'll hide under the bed.
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids...)

When they cook dinner and call me to eat,
I'll not eat my green beans or salad or meat.
I'll gag on my okra, spill milk on the table,
And when they get angry...I'll run...if I'm able!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids...)

I'll sit close to the TV, through the channels I'll click.
I'll cross both eyes just to see if they stick.
I'll take off my socks and throw one away,
And play in the mud 'til the end of the day!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids...)

And later in bed, I'll lay back and sigh,
I'll thank God in prayer and then close my eyes.
My kids will look down with a smile slowly creeping,
And say with a groan, "She's so sweet when she's sleeping!"

Changes in 2016

I have decided to start a new blog in 2016 and wanted to let you know now, so that it wouldn't come as too much of a suprise when the time comes.

My meme Today's Flowers will also be at my new blog.

An important reason for the change is that many of you have let me know that you have had a hard time leaving comments, and also that it takes a long time to load the pages.  I started thinking that because this is seven years' old and there are many, many, many photographs on here, many, many pages, this may be the reason why things are slowing down.

I have also read that how I have set my comments may also be an issue.  Embed, pop-up, full-page.  I am not sure if this is the case and this is not the only reason for my decision.  It just seemed to be the right time to start afresh.

My new blog will be called "An English Girl Rambles 2016", and will be the forerunner to subsquent blogs every year, for as long as I can keep going.

You can take a look here.

If the link doesn't work above you can cut and paste the following into your browser.

I will be repeating this message on the last day of December.

Thank you Friends!

More from Williamsburg, Virginia

Thank you for visiting and for leaving comments.  Up until the New Year I won't have a lot of computer time, so will only have a limited amount of time to publish comments and return visits.  I will be ever so slowly catching up eventually.  In the meantime here are a few more photos from our trip to  Williamsburg a couple of weeks ago.

I had another Williamsburg post here where I have more narrative.  This post is just for photographs.

Hope you had fun looking at these photos.  I have a lot more to share and you'll be seeing them eventually.

We are in Hawaii.....

and having a great time enjoying our 40th Anniversary trip.

Last night we met up with good blogging friend Gigi of Gigi-Hawaii and husband David.  It was our second meeting as we first met on their trip to Washington DC a couple of years ago, and we were looking forward to seeing them again.  You can read all about that meeting here.

It wasn't long before Gigi and David arrived and it was a very happy reunion.  We enjoyed their company immensely. I was sad to see the evening end but the time flew, and it didn't seem long before we were saying our goodbyes.  We told them that we would be back one day and looked forward to repeating such a delightful evening.

Thank you Gigi and David for such a very special evening, and for letting me use your photo Gigi.  It truly was the highlight of our holiday.

I will write about The Willows Restaurant in a later post.

Computer time is a bit limited right now but I will be catching up with you all when we rest up a spell.

I thought I would kick off this post by telling you that it is our 40th Wedding Anniversary today.  We have a special celebration planned, more on that later.

From now and up until the New Year I won't have a lot of computer time, but I have several posts done already.  They will continue up until the last day of 2015.  As I moderate my comments it could take a while for me to read and publish them, so please don't think they have gotten lost or have been forgotten.  They will appear when I am able to get to them.  Thank you so much for leaving those comments.  They are always an enjoyable read.

Also until after the holidays I will be taking a break from all my favorite memes, except for Today's Flowers which is my own.

Two views, one looking at the top of an old historical home in Virginia Beach, and the other an old fence at a churchyard in Norfolk.

For Willy-Nilly Friday Five, I am continuing my list of things that I enjoy browsing at in catelogs, not to buy necessarily but just to enjoy looking at.

1. Something for the Christmas tree at this link.

2.  For the kiddos.

3. Something else that does not need electricity. You can see that here.

4. I know many of us would find this interesting.  Click on this link to see.

5. Keep track of your blogging friends.  A great way to refresh or improve our geography.  Go here.

Random Photo

Buggy hotels are popping up all over the place.  I have seen several at one of my favorite spots, scattered throughout the garden.  This one I saw in England last June.  I found a site where you can look at several designs, a little more like an apartment complex than this one.  You can see them here.

Christmas Ornaments

I have Gregg's sister to thank for sharing these ornaments today.  They are ones I made for her and her family many years ago, and she sent me photos of them recently.

In the early 1980's a lady asked me if I would like to share a craft table with her.  We were living in Northern California at the time.  That little craft show evolved into 14 years of making ornaments, and a small business that kept me painting from dawn til dusk.  While others were asking for jewelry on Christmas' and birthdays, I was asking for a bandsaw and a sander, I kid you not.

Those years were a lot of fun but they ended when I started having problems with my fingers and I wasn't able to paint any more.  In the meantime I had given many ornaments to family and friends, and when I saw these hanging on my sister-in-law's tree,  she gave me a lovely gift....

as I was very happy to learn than she was still enjoying them.  To see them hanging on her tree was a joy.

I took tole painting lessons to learn a few techniques, which was a lot of fun in itself.  Those first ornaments I made were rudimentary to say the least. I was inspired by illustrations in children's books and patterns from tole painting magazines.  My little business kept me busy for every spare moment that I had.

Sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night with ideas, and I would immediately have to get my sketch pad out before I forgot it.  And then I would look through my books to see how to paint a penguin face!  As I said, pretty rudimentary.

Uncle Sam was actually out of one of those tole painting books.

I haven't painted any ornaments in over ten years now.  I miss it sometimes but Gregg looks at me with raised eye-brows when I suggest a new bandsaw for Christmas.  I am joking really.  He was very relieved when I got rid of the two I had, and the sander.  I am not as steady as I once was and he fears for my fingers, and I doubt they would work as they once did.  But it was lovely to see the ones on my Sister-in-Law's tree, and I send my thanks along with a hug for this special gift.
